About the Role

Macquarie University Health is seeking a motivated Unaccredited Orthopaedic Registrar to provide high-quality clinical services across inpatient and outpatient settings at Macquarie University Hospital and affiliated clinics.

This role offers broad exposure to orthopaedic surgery within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment, working closely with experienced orthopaedic surgeons, allied health professionals, and trainees.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Work alongside specialist orthopaedic surgeons across a range of subspecialties
  • Participate in the assessment, management and peri-operative care of orthopaedic patients
  • Gain experience in outpatient clinics, inpatient care, theatre lists and emergency consults
  • Participate in on-call and after-hours rosters under appropriate supervision
  • Engage in teaching, education and research activities aligned with a university hospital setting
  • Build strong foundations for future accredited orthopaedic training applications

Key Accountabilities

Clinical

As an Unaccredited Orthopaedic Registrar, you will:

  • Provide high-quality clinical care to orthopaedic patients across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Participate in ward rounds, handovers and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Assist in theatre, clinics and procedural areas under specialist supervision
  • Provide timely assessment and management of patients delegated by the clinical supervisor
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records
  • Support discharge planning and continuity of care in collaboration with the care team
  • Participate in an on-call roster as required
  • Escalate clinical concerns promptly to senior medical staff

All care will be delivered in accordance with hospital policies, professional standards and contemporary evidence-based practice.

Administrative

You will contribute to the effective operation of the department by:

  • Attending relevant clinical, departmental and hospital meetings
  • Participating in morbidity and mortality meetings and clinical audits
  • Reporting incidents, near misses and clinical concerns in line with hospital policy
  • Providing adequate notice for planned leave and ensuring appropriate clinical cover

Quality, Research and Education

You will be encouraged to:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits
  • Engage in research activities aligned with departmental interests
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and medical students
  • Attend and present at education sessions, journal clubs and grand rounds

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven commitment to education and research.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including patients and other health professionals.
  • Active [or eligible to be an active] Accredited Practitioner of Macquarie University Health
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to continuous improvement, evidence based practice and promoting a culture of safety, quality, innovation and best practice in clinical practice, teaching and research.
  • Commitment to uphold and be a steward of the Mission, Vision and Values of Macquarie University Health
  • A strong commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Completion of ALS2 desirable or willingness to undertake the same
